Current operating system Blackberry are classified into two distinct parts, Blackberry OS 6.x for phone and BB Tablet OS for Tablet PCs. Tablet OS which was developed from QNX with many new enhancements, in addition we also heard that OS 6.1 will be released in May to a little bit here and there in the human QNX. Can be quite long to see that the distribution of two separate systems are also partly made it mess up. Of course, RIM is also aware of this project and that "Highlander" was born in 2012 with the goal to have a new operating system (OS 7 can be considered), this will be a combination to keep OS 6.1 and Tablet OS (QNX) current. OS 7 will use them for phone and computer tables.
Details were revealed at the CTO David Yach programmers meeting in late March with RIM's past. He was very excited when talking about OS 7 and OS 6.1 now. Below is a summary of some of the content was presented:

RIM is very happy with OS 6.1, but it still has limitations.
Blackberry OS (latest version is 6.1) has 10 years of age and also time to take a better alternative. But graphics (Liquid Graphics-original) In OS 6.1 is what RIM is proud.
OS 7 will also be set for the tablet.
This project is in the first step and is targeted by 2012 it will be released.
